Abstract (Croatian)

Cilj ovog diplomskog rada je donošenje zaključka o mogućem razlogu otkazivanja totalne endoproteze koljena. Tibijalno postolje učvršćeno koštanim cementom za kost uslijed labavljenja spoja metal-cement uzrokovalo je mehaničke komplikacije i prijevremeno otkazivanje umjetnog zgloba koljena. Prvi dio rada je posvećen stvaranju teoretske podloge za razumijevanje područja i konteksta primjene ove vrste medicinskih implantata. Prikazani su najčešći materijali za njihovu izradu, tražena svojstva tih materijala te mogući postupci njihove proizvodnje i završne obrade. U drugom dijelu rada su opisane najčešće mehaničke komplikacije koje uzrokuju prijevremeno otkazivanje endoproteza koljena. Prikazani su provedeni postupci (SEM, EDS, mjerenje parametara hrapavosti, metalografska analiza, mjerenje tvrdoće) i rezultati karakterizacije površine analiziranog tibijalnog postolja. \Na temelju tih podataka ustanovljeno je da je mogući razlog otkazivanja tibijalnog postolja endoproteze neodgovarajuća topografija površine. Konačni zaključak mogao bi se donijeti uz dodatna ispitivanja većeg broja konkretnih dijelova endoproteza koljena.

Abstract

The aim of this diploma thesis is to identify the possible cause of the premature failure of a total knee endoprosthesis. A cemented tibial tray had suffered from loosening on the metal-cement interface and therefore caused a premature failure of the artificial knee. First part of this thesis is focused on creating the theoretical basis for understanding the scope and context of the application of these kinds of medical implants. The predominantly used materials and their required properties, as well as the most commonly used manufacturing processes and surface treatments are mentioned here. In the second part of this thesis, the most frequently observed failure mechanisms of total knee endoprosthesis involving mechanical complications are covered. Utilized surface characterization techniques (SEM, EDS, surface roughness measurement, sample metallography and hardness measurement) and the obtained results are presented here. Based on the information obtained, the possible cause of the premature knee endoprosthesis failure was identified as the inadequate surface topography. A final conclusion can be reached by obtaining and analysing a larger number of samples.
