Abstract

The paper deals with application of the nonlinear finite element analysis for collapse assessment of uniaxially loaded plates and stiffened panels of ship structures. Consideration is given to models extension, boundary conditions, mesh size and initial imperfections appropriate for collapse analyses. The load-end shortening curves of plates and stiffened panels computed by nonlinear finite element analysis are compared with those proposed in Common Structural Rules. © 2010 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
