Abstract

Glow discharge optical emission spectrometry (GD-OES) is an important analytical technique for the analysis of the average bulk composition of solid materials as well as for analyses coatings, intermediate layers and boundary layers. In this paper electroless nickel (EN) plating coating is deposited by the catalytic reduction of nickel ions with sodium hydrophosphate on steel substrate. Chemical composition of steel as well as composition Ni-P coating was determined by means of glow discharge optical emission spectrometry (GD-OES). Results of quantitative depth profile analysis (QDP) and the thickness of Ni-P coating using GD-OES technique is also presented.
