Abstract

Combustion of coal is a significant mode of fuel utilization in cement industry. One possibility for the control and investigation of the coal combustion process inside cement furnaces are CFD simulations. The purpose of this paper is to present a CFD simulation of the coal combustion process in a cement calciner. Numerical model of pulverized coal combustion was developed and implemented into a commercial computational fluid dynamics code FIRE, which was then used for the analysis. A three dimensional geometry of a real industrial cement calciner was used for the CFD simulation. The results gained by this simulation can be used for the improving the understanding of the coal combustion process inside the calculated calciner, and for the reducing of its pollutant emissions.
