Cement industry is one of the leading producers of the greenhouse gases. During the cement production process, large amounts of carbon dioxide are emitted. There are two processes from which carbon dioxide is produced. One of the processes is the exothermic combustion of the fuel and the other is a strong endothermic calcination reaction. The purpose of this paper is to present a mathematical model of calcination reaction mechanism implemented into a commercial code FIRE. A simplified three dimensional geometry of a pipe reactor was used for numerical simulations which were compared with experimental results.
