This paper tries to provide insights for the holistic design of product service systems (PSSs). To achieve this, the perspectives of System Engineering and Service Science are taken and are applied in parallel. The practical PSS example in this paper is from the field of telemedicine. Key aspects of the two research perspectives as well as practical insights from a telemedicine PSS provider are used to extend the scope for the PSSs design. The paper contributes by providing an overview of the two perspectives and their according aspects and shows their applicability in an exemplary setting. After a discussion, the paper presents suggestions for potential future improvements of PSS design and calls for the joint consideration of the two perspectives. Thereby, it contributes by fostering interdisciplinary future research activities in this interesting field of research.
