Abstract

Shape memory alloys (SMAs) made of nickel and titanium are used in fixed orthodontic treatment due to their superelasticity and memory retention. Various coatings on nickel-titanium (NiTi) wires are manufactured to improve esthetics or reduce friction upon brackets. This study analyzes effect of coating on mechanical properties, and percentage of bending force action emitted to phase transformation during bending of NiTi orthodontic wires.
