Abstract

External fixators are used for simple, rapid and stable fixation of bone fragments and often represent a definitive treatment. Nearly all open and closed fractures of the long bones can be successfully treated with an external fixator. Biomechanical testing of external fixator is conducted to determine the stability of bone fragments which is very important as it provides better outcome with less complications. This paper presents the analysis of the stability and rigidity of the newly developed fixator. Two different types of tests were conducted, axial compression test and bending test, and the results were compared with results obtained on the external fixator Orthofix. The displacements were measured and calculated by using the non-contact optical measuring system Aramis.
