The rapid development of industry requires the production of new engineering structures. They must meet the requirements of the construction, namely, use at higher workloads and exploitation at extreme working conditions while at the same time requiring longer lifetime and reliability. This trend stimulates the development of advanced methods of design and description of the material behaviour. The purpose of this paper is to study the biaxial behaviour of spheroidal graphite cast iron under quasi-static loading regimes. The experimental protocol uses mainly full-field kinematic measurements. Digital Image Correlation (DIC), when regularized, was applied for measuring the displacement and strain fields on two scales (macro- and mesoscopic). The experimental procedure included monotonic tensile tests, and two different biaxial loading paths. The testing specimens for the biaxial experiments were Maltese crosses thinned in their centre with heterogeneous strain/stress fields while monotonic tensile tests were conducted on cylindrical specimens.
