The framework for hull girder reliability assessment of ULCSs is presented. Loads considered in the study are still water bending moments, vertical wave bending moments and whipping bending moments, while structural capacity is represented by the hull girder ultimate bending moment. The approach proposed in the study is combination of assumptions and formulations used in several studies performed within different EU and SSC (Ship structural committee) projects. The aim is to provide results comparable to recommendations from IMO document MSC 81/INF.6, February 2006 "Goal based new ship construction standards", which is employed in the development of new Common Structural Rules for Double-Hull Oil Tankers. Standard engineering tools for ship structural design are used in the report: seakeeping code for rigid body response, FE beam model for transient vibratory response and 2D sectional analysis of ultimate bending capacity. Simplified approach for bow flare slamming load, based on von Karman theory is employed. Load combinations between still water and wave loads as well as between wave and whipping bending moments are considered.
