Recently, through several documents ranging from guidelines to standards, the strengthening of quantitative character of a result of a non-destructive testing has been suggested and its implementation prescribed. In this article, we apply the formulated scheme on the ultrasonic thickness measurement, which is a typical procedure within the ultrasonic testing. We describe the regular situation, formalise it through formulating the accompanied model, and estimate its measurement uncertainty using Monte-Carlo based simulation. Results obtained indicate significant contribution of the approach to evaluation of the testing system capability, its step-by-step improvement as well as direct tracing of consequences of any change in its characteristics.
