In order to achieve the minimum required reliability of radiographic testing of welded joints it is necessary to meet technical requirements of reference standards in terms of quality parameters of radiograph, such as optical density, radiographic contrast and definition (unsharpness). From the reliability viewpoint, the final test results of computed radiography (cRT) are considerably different from the conventional-film radiography results. Optimization of parameters in each phase of testing procedure is necessary for achieving the higher level of cRT reliability. Paper presents analysis of influence of imaging plate scanning parameters on quality of digital radiographic image. For this purpose, a series of exposures of the reference sample were conducted on the same type of imaging plate. Exposure parameters and resetting settings of the imaging plate were kept constant. The values of scanning parameters (laser power, resolution and PMT voltage) were varied while reading the latent image from the exposed imaging plate. The quality of digital radiographic images was analyzed qualitatively based on the visibility of certain wire of IQI indicator, as well as quantitatively by comparative analysis of the signal response from the reference image area. Results of analysis are the basis for optimization of scan parameters of image plates in computed radiography technique.
