Abstract
In this paper, a framework for exploring technology evolution by analysing patent data is proposed. Three metrics are taken into account as part of the framework: TLC phase of technology, patent diffusion speed and technology scope. Also, a patent map is made visualising patent citations. The proposed framework should provide invaluable information about an examined technology to decision makers, helping them to reduce risk. Safety ski bindings technology was analysed as a case study.
