Abstract

Development of new product is particularly complex because it involves understanding many areas of design, from an aesthetic design to knowledge of mechanical and product properties. Also specialty polymer materials and their processing presents difficulties in the development of the product itself. Nowadays, additive manufacturing is, especially for small series, increasingly replacing classical processing. As a key element in the production of products with additive manufacturing it is necessary to have computer model (ie, knowledge of modeling in the 3D software). In case of already having the product produced with classical processes without the necessary documentation or in the case of complicated geometry of the products scanning and reverse engineering can be used. With reverse engineering it is possible to reach optimal design, reduce the cost and time necessary for launching of products on the market. In this paper scanning, reverse engineering and additive production is shown on the cover for smartphone.
