Abstract

Helicopter equipped with water cannon proved its operational capabilities as an effective platform for fire distinguishing on higher levels of buildings in urban environment or ships on the sea. Stability of helicopter is affected by influence of the water ball or water projectile during its launching. The scope of this paper is the first step of modeling of helicopter dynamics coupled with water cannon. Helicopter with single main rotor configuration, equipped with single- tube water cannon mounted underside along fuselage centerline is taken into consideration. Both impulse and continuous flow water cannon discharge influence are analyzed. Impulse or continuous water jet can generate significant aspects on helicopter stability and may lead to degradation of its handling qualities.
