Abstract

An analytical method for the distribution of stresses, strains and displacements across the thickness of a thick-walled pressure vessel is considered in this paper. The pressure vessel is loaded by the internal pressure of the fluid and also by an axial force of the fluid pressure exerted on the vessel heads. Any component of strain (radial, circumferential, and axial) at a given point of the thick-walled pressure vessel is composed of elastic strain (e), plastic strain (p), and creep strain (c). The thick-walled pressure vessels are subjected to steady-state creep. In this process of creeping, elastic strains can be neglected with respect to creep strains, especially when an element is exposed to creep during a long period of time. An analysis of stress distribution has been carried out by means of analytical methods.
