Abstract

Production engineering analytical methods, based on sound mathematical principles, are commonly applied in analysis, design and decision making of different production system in order to enhance its productivity and gained profit. An outline of the simplest Bernoulli production line formulation and the most important resulting performance measures is presented in this paper following the probability and Markov chain theory used in stochastic processes modeling. The presented theory is applied in case of serial plate prefabrication line commonly sighted in every Croatian shipyard based on the declared capacities and operative characteristics. Finally, performance measures, i.e. production rate, work in process and probabilities of blockages and starvations are determined for the considered case.
