Abstract

The city of Zagreb, faced with growing problem of effective and economical waste management, started to introduce programs and activities for control and reduction of Municipal solid waste. In order to protect public health and environment at the European Union level, official program for billing actual waste generation know as pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) has been strategically defined and implemented. Fee models based on administrative principles and traditional conservative technologies that have been in use in the City of Zagreb don't oblige to PAYT principle. By using SMART technologies that have been established on Cyber-Physical Systems, it's possible to develop and apply advanced billing model for municipal solid waste collection and disposal. This model will be founded on weight-billing of municipal solid waste. Through a use of described model, the City of Zagreb will accomplish requirements of PAYT principle the goal of which is to reduce an amount of municipal solid waste.
