This paper presents numerical investigation of hemodynamics (blood flow dynamics) in abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). Blood flow dynamics were obtained with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in OpenFOAM. In order to examine the impact of geometric variations on hemodynamics, multiple geometric variations of ideal fusiform (axially symmetric) aneurysm models were tested. For each of the geometric variation a 3D model was discretized with the corresponding finite volume mesh. A numerical computation for the laminar transient flow conditions was performed. Pulsatile flow with parabolic velocity profile was defined on inflow boundary. Fluid properties were modeled with non-Newtonian Carreau–Yasuda model. Values of wall shear stress were monitored considering that low values of wall shear stress promote thrombus accumulation. Results showed position of low values of wall shear stress. This paper presents the fields of various physical quantities together with the analysis and the comparison of the results.
