Abstract (Croatian)

U ovom radu cilj je bio istražiti i provesti laboratorijska ispitivanja degradacije biorazgradivog polimera u morskom okolišu. Cilj je bio predstaviti metode za mjerenje fizikalne i biološke degradacije svojstava u simuliranoj morskoj sredini gdje polimerni ostaci mogu završiti nakon njihovog nekontroliranog odlaganja. U teorijskom dijelu rada predstavljen je opći prikaz o biorazgradivim polimerima koji su danas najzastupljeniji u primjeni. Također je dana kratka analiza opće razgradnje i razgradivosti polimera u morskoj sredini. U eksperimentalnom dijelu provedena su ispitivanja fizikalnih i mehaničkih svojstava prije i nakon izlaganja morskoj otopini u različitim vremenskim intervalima (nakon 9, 20, 30, 40 i 50 dana). Prije same pripreme uzoraka i početka izlaganja morskoj vodi i ispitivanja bilo je potrebno nabaviti proizvode od biorazgradivog polimera i pripremiti otopinu ekvivalentnu morskoj vodi. Ispitivane biorazgradive vrećice su ujedno i kompostabilne, ali nema dostupnih podataka o razgradnji u morskoj sredini. Svi su uzorci sa završetkom njihovog ispitivanja odloženi u spremnik za biootpad.

Abstract

The objective of this thesis was to investigate and conduct laboratory test methods about the degradation of biodegradable polymers in marine environmental conditions. The aim was to outline test methods in order to measure the degradation of physical and its mechanical properties in simulated marine conditions where polymer waste can become deposited when littered due to their uncontrolled waste management. The theoretical part of the thesis presents a general review of the most common biodegradable polymers which can nowadays be found in many applications. Also, a short analysis of the process of degradation in sea water has also been introduced. The experimental part of the thesis consists of the examination of physical and mechanical properties before and after their exposure in synthetic sea water during different time intervals (after 9, 20, 30, 40 and 50 days). Before making test samples and exposing them to marine environment it was important to purchase such biodegradable material and prepare the synthetic sea water. Examinated biodegradable bags are declared as compostable, but the data about their degradation in sea water is not available. After the end of each measuring, samples were disposed in biowaste containers.
