Abstract

In order to develop high-performance control strategies for oil drilling systems, it is paramount to analyze the physical behavior of individual drilling subsystems such as the drill-string rotary and draw-works (hoist) electrical drives and mud pump electrical drives, and subsequently derive their respective mathematical models. These mathematical models can then be used as a basis for the development of accurate simulation models needed for the verification and validation of prospective controllers for individual drilling subsystems.
