Abstract

This paper discusses on the implementation of lean management and digitization in healthcare systems. There are various proven benefits of implementing lean management and digitization in healthcare processes, thus the aim of this article is to show how Croatian healthcare can be improved. The research is conducted using a value stream mapping (VSM) as a lean tool and results of research show significant improvements in the time management, making the whole process more efficient. The observed process is the triage process on emergency department, KBC Zagreb. This way of improving healthcare processes represents the foundation of designing a smart hospital. Conclusion sums up facts, which show a great need for implementation of the elements of smart hospital in order to adapt the healthcare to the patient needs.
