Professional ethics comprises the personal, organizational and corporate standards of professional behaviour in providing services to the public. Ethical approach refers to the specific performance based on professional judgement, responsibility and respect for users, dignity and integrity of the profession, and loyalty and cooperation within the working community. However, due to the global technological development, current social and political changes, and contemporary materialistic lifestyles, humanity faces the crisis of ethics, visible both on the level of ethical theories and principles, and in everyday life practice as well. That’s why the paper examines the ethical issues and dilemmas encountered by librarians in Croatia in their daily work, and also the relevance and applicability of the existing Code of Ethics of the Croatian Library Association.
