Abstract

This paper presents the design of droop-based control system and the cascade control system based on dynamic power distribution strategy for a direct-current microgrid featuring a hybrid battery/ultracapacitor energy storage system. In particular, power converter direct-current bus voltage control systems have been designed based on the damping optimum criterion, which provides direct analytical relationships between controller parameters, process model parameters and closed-loop damping tuning parameters. The proposed feedback control systems are augmented by feed-forward load compensators aimed at canceling the dominant closed-loop dynamics and achieving effective load disturbance rejection. The disturbance rejection and fault robustness of the proposed control systems has been analyzed in the frequency domain. The resulting microgrid control systems have also been verified by means of detailed computer simulations for joint operation of battery/ultracapacitor power converters at the common direct-current bus. Based on the presented results, recommendations are given for the most suitable choice of control system structure in terms of performance and fault robustness.
