Abstract

In this work, we develop structured dynamical model of elastic beam with col loca ted piezoelectric actuators - sensors which is suitable for synthesis of a distributed controller. The model is based on Euler - Bernoulli beam theory and the finite element method (FEM) which includes regular beam elements and piezoelectric beam elements. Next, we formulate optimal control pro blem in terms of minimization of H ∞ norm of a closed loop system, with external forces acting on a beam as disturbances and deflections as controlled outputs to be minimized. Additionally, optimal centralized control solution is presented together with com parison relative to distributed controller.
