Abstract

This paper describes a surface preparation on the properties of a nitrided or nitrocarburised layer. Nitrocarburation is carried out by TENIFER process (580 C/1h) on non-alloyed quality steel test specimens W.Nr. 1.0330 (EN 10130 DC01). The effect of cleaning and preparation of samples on the visual appearance, surface qualiy and corrosion resistance of the nitrocarburised layer was investigated. The surface quality was examined by determining the profile and roughness parameters. The corrosion resistance was tested by a gravimetric method with exposure of samples to a fog of 5% salt (NaCl) solution for 24 h.
