Abstract (Croatian)
Abstract
In order to stay successful in business every production company needs to continuously improve its processes. Research has shown that a large number of leading world manufacturing companies use the principles of Lean production to improve their processes. The basic principle of Lean production is to pill of material through the production process. The synonym for the pull is Kanban because it was the first developed production control mechanism to achieve through a process developed in Toyota, where the principles of Lean production were created. With the years of application of this principle, other production control mechanisms are developed with regard to the specificity of individual production processes. The aim of this research was to analyze how the production process parameters: coefficient of variation of processing time, processing time, bottleneck, and number of production control cards affect the performance of the production process depending on production control mechanism. The hypothesis of the research was that by selecting an appropriate pull it is possible to optimally improve the performance of the production process. Simulation experimentation was performed for this purpose. Four case scenarios were simulated. In the first case scenario the production process was controlled by Kanban. In the second one, production process was controlled by Conwip. In the third and the forth case scenarios the production process was controlled by Hybrid Kanban / Conwip and DBR. All four scenarios were simulated in such a way that the same production parameters have been varied. Productivity and lead time were observed, and then were compared for each of the control mechanisms. The results have shown that for each combination of input parameters, the performance measure varies depending on which control mechanism is applied in the production process. Based on these findings, it is concluded that not always the same control mechanism is the best choice for a particular process. Which is the best control mechanism for the particular process depends on the levels of influential parameters of the production process.
