A simple mathematical model has been developed to predict unsteady aerodynamic loads on a vehicle exposed to cross-wind gusts comparable to the Bora winds along the eastern Adriatic. Obtained numerical results were validated against the results of experimental small-scale simulations. The numerical results indicate that the mathematical model with two state variables is not fully capable of capturing the unsteady cross-wind-induced vehicle dynamics with sufficient accuracy and the higher order models (three or four) may be required to calculate unsteady cross-wind loads on a vehicle.
